She attended school primarily in Fort Worth along with sisters Terina and Kristy and brother Kelly Kennamer. She worked in Fort Worth and Reno Nevada until 1990 when she received her kidney-pancreas transplant. She married Fred Moreland Scott on November 13, 1993 in Austin. She died July 3, 2009 at age 48 at Seton Hospital in Austin.
Karen was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at age eleven and went on dialysis in 1989. She received a kidney-pancreas transplant in 1990. In 2006 her transplanted kidney failed and sadly, she had to return to dialysis. She died after a difficult three year wait for a new kidney transplant from complications of diabetes and dialysis. She is survived by her father, brother and sisters, husband Fred, step son Chris, daughter in law Stephanie and grand daughter Addison.
She was very active in peer counseling for transplant patients and had a network of friends and contacts nation wide. Cremation services are being handled by Austin-Peel and Son Funeral Home. A Memorial Service is planned in September, to be announced. A Memorial web site has been created and visitors are urged to
leave a message for Karen and family at the site. In lieu of flowers, Karen would ask that you consider organ donation to prolong life for others. Please visit
